KEETA Becomes GANBINA
Wednesday, 7 April 2004

Koori Economic Employment & Training Agency Inc, commonly known as KEETA, has adopted a new name, and launched a new website.

The organisation will now be known as Ganbina Koori Economic Employment & Training Agency Inc. and can be found on the web at www.ganbina.com.au.

‘Ganbina is from the local Yorta Yorta language and means to awake or to arise’ explained chairman Adrian Appo. ‘The new name provides a link with our service area and distinguishes Ganbina from other entities with similar names’ he said.

Ganbina was formed in 1997 and aims to improve the economic and social well being of indigenous people in the Goulburn Valley through effective employment, economic and training initiatives.

One of Ganbina’s key initiatives, the ‘Ladders to Success’ programme, has assisted over 110 kooris to find sustainable employment in mainstream organisations. Ganbina has also sponsored major research studies including ‘Shepparton Regional Indigenous Community Employment and Development Strategies’, which highlighted that official census counts under-enumerate the region’s indigenous population by between 45% and 64%. More recently, it launched the ‘Economic Analysis of the GoulburnValleyand the City of Greater Shepparton’, which predicted the region’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) would triple during the next 20 years.
