GANBINA is now placed to have real and sustained impact on the economic and social well-being of the Victoria’s largest indigenous community. The tempo of GANBINAs activities has increased markedly during 2003 — 2004. Significant activities, detailed in the attached annual report, have included:
- Preparing the organisation for growth including adopting a new (indigenous) name, launching a web site, revising our constitution, obtaining Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) endorsement from the tax office and updating our Strategic Plan
- Establishing a new partnership with the R. E. Ross Trust, continuing our Working Partners Alliance with Worktrainers Ltd, and providing support to the Rumbalara Football Netball Club Inc.
- Continuation of our 3-year ‘flagship’ employment program “Ladders to Success” into its second year.
- Establishment of the Koori Driver Skills Program - 2004 with support from RACV.
- Commissioning of further basic research to provide a sound basis for our proposed programs: Economic Analysis of the Goulburn Valley (released November 2003) and a “Labour force demographics study” (in progress).
- Work to define and seek funding for future programs including
o The Shepparton-Mooroopna Indigenous School to Work Program (2005-2007),
o ‘Stepping Stones” for disadvantaged indigenous youth,
o “Indigenous Youth Scholarships - 2004”
o “Shepparton to Melbourne — a pictorial journey - 2005”
The task of delivering these outcomes fell principally on the fully voluntary Board of Management comprising:
· Mr. Adrian Appo Chairman
· Ms Julie Fiegert Treasurer
· Mr. Paul Briggs Public Officer
· Mr. Neville Atkinson
· Mr. Michael Chisholm Deputy Chairman (to 28 Nov 2003)
· Mr. Kevin Collie Deputy Chairman (from 28 Nov 2003)
· Ms Kim Dickenson Secretary (to 28 Nov 2003)
· Mrs. Karen Mohamard Secretary (from 28 Nov 2003)
At the 2003 Annual General Meeting Michael Chisholm and Kim Dickenson retired from the Board and Karen Mohamed was elected to the Board. The end of the financial year saw me pass the role of Chairman to Neville Atkinson so that I could assume the new position of Executive Officer from 1st July 2004.
