“Ladders” and “Jobs 4 U 2” at Hume Jobs Fair
Thursday, 2 June 2005

Ganbina staff from the “Ladders to Success” and “Jobs 4 U 2” projects were out in force at the Hume Koori Job Fair in Shepparton on 1st June.

The Fair, one of seven across the state, was hosted by the Department of Justice, Koori Recruitment and Career Development Strategy, an initiative of the Victorian Aboriginal Justice Agreement. Over 100 koori students aged 15 years plus were bussed to Shepparton’s Eastbank Centre from nearby secondary schools for the event.

The event included career stalls, interactive sessions by a variety of sponsoring government agencies, cultural games, encouragement prizes, and access to education providers and career path information plus, of course, lunch. Ganbina was able to deliver information about its major programs directly to their target audiences at the fair through a combination of booth displays, literature distribution and one-on-one discussions. This included “Jobs 4 u 2” which addresses school retention rates for koori youth in years 7 to 10 and ‘Ladders to Success” which assists young indigenous work seekers into mainstream employment.
