Ganbina features in Community Awards Tuesday, 1 November 2005
[L to R] Neville Atkinson, Megan Appo, Justin Mohamed
Ganbina (www.ganbina.com.au) and Ganbina people featured in all four categories at the 2005 Community Fund awards ceremony for volunteer excellence and leadership in the GoulburnValley
Ganbina chairman Neville Atkinson was a finalist in the sports club and service clubs category for his voluntary work with indigenous youth in sport. His nomination specifically highlighted his unpaid work coaching and managing teams at the Rumbalara Football Netball Club.
Justin Mohamed, a Ganbina board member, was a finalist in the general community individuals category because of his outstanding fundraising for charities. His most recent fund raising activity being for CampQuality.
Megan Appo, a participant in several Ganbina programs, was most surprised to find herself anonymously nominated in the youth and schools category. Megan earned her “highly commended” recognition as a youth leader for serving on the Board and finance committee of youth-driven youth-focused organisation “Word and Mouth”, for setting a peer leadership example in touch football, and combining completion of VCE with part-time employment.
Ganbina itself was acknowledged in the “Corporates Who Care” category as a bronze sponsor of the awards.
The awards are organized by the Community Fund (www.thecommunityfund.com.au), an independent non-government public fund supporting community-strengthening initiatives in the GoulburnValley. Award winners and finalists were honored at an awards night held on Thursday October 6th at Shepparton’s Eastbank Centre.
