Young Indigenous footballer takes out top award

One of the youngest Indigenous achievers recognized at the Ganbina Education Training and Employment Achievement Awards held on Friday, December 1, also took out the top award — Youth of the Year.

Hayden Newton-King, a Year 7 student from McGuire College in Shepparton, was awarded Youth of the Year. Hayden enjoyed the challenge of school this year and is looking forward to 2007. He was captain of the Rumbalara Football Netball Club’s 4ths football team, attends youth group and likes to help his brother with mechanical repairs to his racing sidecar. Hayden also received the Year 7 State Member’s Award on the night presented by Jeanette Powell.

Ganbina hosts the annual awards to recognize excellence in education, training and employment by young Indigenous people.
