Ganbina was proud to congratulate several of its participants at the my Moola awards night recently.

The Ganbina participants were part of a larger group that graduated from the first my Moola program to be run in Shepparton.

The program aims to help Indigenous people get ahead financially by understanding money management and the impact that some decisions have on money goals we make.

"The program was fantastic," Ganbina participant Meagan O'Shannessy said. "It taught me how to budget and how to control my money and save. So now we're able to save money every fortnight."

Meagan said she enjoyed how the program was "very hands on".

"You were able to get really involved in the program. You didn't get bored because you were with people you knew and it was run in a good environment which made it easy to answer questions."

She recommends the program to anyone interested in saving money and getting ahead financially. "I was able to identify my bad spending habits and then start saving money for our house, then plan ahead for when we have children."

Other Ganbina participants who graduated at the awards night were Geoff West, Emily Thomas, David Murray, Danielle Matthews, Luke Brown, Kellie Marsters.

"The awards night was great fun. It was good to get together and bring family and friends so they could see what we achieved," Meagan said. Other participants were from the Academy of Sport Health and Education and Rumbalara Aboriginal Co-operative.

The program started its second 10-week my Moola course on September 24 and further courses will be held in 2008 to involve more Indigenous youth and adults from Shepparton and Mooroopna.
