Applications for the 2024 Youth Leadership Program are now open! If you are interested in applying be quick, as applications will close on February 16th, 2024.

The aim of this program is to invest in the next generation of Aboriginal & Torres Strait leaders and to encourage our youth to learn and engage in leadership in the community.

Each year up to 12 Indigenous year 11 high school students will be given the opportunity to participate in the youth leadership program, exposing them to various training sessions, small focus group discussions at Ganbina or local locations.

This year a revised version of the program has been launched. This year the program will run for one year and only be open to students in Year 11 in 2024.

The program will focus on:

• Culture and Local History
• Communication
• Team Building
• Goal setting
• Leadership styles and traits
• Community
• Three unique trips

Students are always encouraged to value their education, therefore the program will run in conjunction with the 2024 school year, with activities being held on evenings, weekends and during school holidays.

The students will be selected from an application and interview process.

All program activities are fully paid by Ganbina. This amounts to approximately $20,000.00 in one year. This amount covers program activities, travel, meals, accommodation, passports, air fares etc.

The three unique trips are:

March/April: Focus on Leadership and community issues at the local level, including a trip to Melbourne and Sydney. We meet with the Indigenous community Leaders and Organisations, Ganbina Funders, Universities etc.

June/July: Focusing on Leadership and community issues at a national level, including a trip to Cairns or Uluru. We meet with the Indigenous Community Leaders and Organisations, Universities including Cultural Tours and Activities.

September: Leadership and community issues at an international level including a trip to New Zealand. We meet with the Māori Community Leaders and Organisations, Universities including Cultural Tours and Activities.
