The Ganbina Youth Achievement Awards is an annual event celebrating the achievements of the Goulburn Valley Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people in education, employment, and training.
Many encounter stereotypes that overlook their achievements in education, employment, and training.
To highlight and celebrate their successes, we created the Ganbina Youth Achievement Awards. These awards proudly demonstrate that our community are excelling and achieving remarkable things in their educational and professional journeys.
Eligibility: All young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, less than 25 years old (as of 31/12/24) from the Goulburn Valley who are actively engaged in fulltime education, training or employment in 2024 can be nominated.
An annual recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people. The Award categories include:
Education Achievement Awards – Recognising outstanding achievement in full-time education
Four awards across each year level from Year 7 – Year 12
Employment Achievement Awards
Four awards for individuals in full-time employment, including traineeships and apprenticeships
Training Achievement Awards – Recognising outstanding achievements in full-time training
Four awards for individuals in full-time training (training refers to enrolment in further education, i.e. a Certificate IV, higher or a university degree)
Adrian Appo OAM Youth of the Year Award
Every year one Youth Achievement Award recipient is also awarded the Adrian Appo OAM Youth of the Year Award for overall highest scoring youth. This is in honour of Ganbina’s founding CEO Adrian Appo OAM and acknowledges his legacy and contribution to Ganbina.
How the awards work
2024 Youth Achievement Awards period:
The awards process is the following
- Application open Monday 30 September 2024 and must be completed in full, submitted and received by close of business Friday 18 October 2024.
- Ganbina selection panel process
- Succesful applicants are notified and invited to get their photo taken
- Award winners are invited to attend the Ganbina Youth Achievement Awards Dinner Presentation on Friday 15 November 2024.
How to apply:
Current Ganbina participants will be sent an application form.
Eligible applicants who are not currently registered with Ganbina can speak with the Koorie Educator or your training provider/ employer at their school to access an application form.

Ganbina Youth Achievement Awards Dinner Presentation
If you win an award you will be invited to attend the Ganbina Youth Achievement Award’s Dinner. This semi-formal event is a celebration of Goulburn Valley Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.
Family and friends of the award winners are encouraged to attend.

The Ganbina Youth Achievement Awards are open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and youth from Year 7 and up to 25-years-old, who are from the Goulburn Valley and are actively engaged in fulltime education, employment or training. You do not need to be registered for any of Ganbina’s programs to win a Ganbina Youth Achievement Award.
No. You do not need to be registered for any of Ganbina’s programs to apply for an award. You need to be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, either be living in or from the Goulburn Valley and be engaged in full-time education, employment and/or training. Applications are open to youth from Year 7 and higher and no older than 25-years-old.
Yes, we encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth who are eligible for an award to nominate themselves.
The only award that you cannot nominate yourself or someone for is the Adrian Appo OAM Youth of the Year Award. This award is awarded to the highest overall scoring youth out of all the award winners for the year.
